A Greek Burger

A Greek Burger

Of course the Greeks didn’t have hamburgers so this is really quite a contemporary recipe but nearly all the ingredients are of an original nature. However, it’s healthy, fun and tastes great.

Are you craving for a burger; but reluctant to eat beef? Here is a great recipe that passes on the beef, but not the great taste. The use of turkey and spices for a taste of the Mediterranean in these Greek burgers is just heavenly. The only disadvantage is that once you’ve tasted one you will want another - so some discipline please!

Ingredients:

2 garlic cloves, minced
3 tablespoons fresh mint, chopped
1-1/2 cups non/low fat yogurt
1-1/2 pounds ground turkey, lean
2-1/4 teaspoons feta cheese, crumbled
6 pita bread loaves, cut in half
1-1/2 tomatoes, sliced
1-1/2 red onions, sliced

Directions:

Combine garlic and mint in a small bowl and mash. Add yogurt, mix and set aside.

Combine turkey and feta cheese in a mixing bowl. Form into 8 patties and sprinkle with pepper. Broil 5-10 minutes per side or until the turkey is cooked through.

Serve in pita bread with tomatoes, onions and yogurt sauce.
