Drinking Wine On A Diet No Longer A Dieting Sin

woman-drinking-wine.jpgLooking for the lowest calorie wine on the market? Well look no further. Slender wines have no calories at all. Yes, you read right. No calories, no carbs, no sugars, no fat, and no glycemic index, either. The great news is that drinking alcohol on a diet is now possible with the recent launch of sugar free Slender wines. This makes them a great choice for both the figure conscious and diabetics who enjoy a glass of vino.

Of course, probably even better news is that Slender wines contain about 12% alcohol content which makes them comparable to your usual bottle of wine.

This extremely low calorie wine has been sweetened with a substance known commercially as Zerose, otherwise known as erythritol. This naturally found sugar alcohol sweetener has been approved for use in the US and Canada and has been used in Japan since the latter 1980’s. The great thing about erythritol is that although it tastes like sugar experts say it is about 70% as sweet as natural sugar. (Artificial sweeteners are much sweeter then natural sugar and require added chemicals to make them less sweet.)

Even though erythritol has no calories it does not have the nasty side effects that usually accompany artificial sweeteners. (Think unpleasant after taste, and intestinal upsets such as diarrhea.) Erythritol cannot be absorbed by the human body, passing straight from the bloodstream to be excreted in the urine. It has absolutely no effect on blood insulin levels, making it a great selection for diabetics. Another bonus is that it won’t destroy your teeth.

Erythritol is to be found in fruits such as grapes, melons, and pears, as well as some fungi such as mushrooms. Wines and soy sauce are also sources. This natural sugar alcohol sweetener is usually produced from fermented plants when used in products such as Slender. Another benefit of erythritol is that unlike Equal and Splenda, this is a naturally occurring sweetener which does not need chemicals added to it. When used in wine, erythritol will reduce the bitter taste, soften the tannins, and increase the sweetness.

Slender wines are billed as the only sugar free wine in the world. They are produced by an Indiana winery, Chateau Thomas. Slender wines accommodate most wine drinkers, coming in Red, White, and Blush.

Dieters need no longer feel that they have to deprive themselves of all of life’s little luxuries.  All those figure conscious folk out there who are currently counting calories, carbs, or fat grams, and denying themselves alcohol can now indulge. While many foods such as chocolate, candies and pastries may still be on the list of no-no’s, this no sugar wine has made drinking wine on a diet a calorie yes-yes. Which begs the question. While we are not going to gain weight drinking Slender wine, what about headaches and hangovers? Now, where’s the bottle opener?
    * Although this wine may be suitable for those on diets, it is still our responsibility to remind you that alcohol should always be only drunk in moderation.
